The Economics and Capitalism in the Study of Buddhism Seminar draws together four papers that include early Buddhism, and contemporary developments in the economics of Buddhism. A theoretical presentation on ideology and utopianism opens the session, to be followed by an examination of the consequences of employing the stock market as a vehicle for funding of monastic institutions. Next, the role of Buddhist material products as positive vehicles for establishing relations between consumers and Buddhism in Ladakh is examined, and last, the importance of maintaining a good reputation in the religious market is studied.
